The Year It Started

Did you know BrynTeg Farm LLC officially started in 2009?

Farmers Caryl and Gary were growing produce for friends and family. The year before in 2008, they started having so much extra produce. We needed to figure out what to do with it all. Daughter Tara was in full-time grad school at the time and had some free Saturdays available. She thought it would be a brilliant idea to try to sell produce at a local farmers' market. She applied to the Delafield Farmers' Market and was immediately accepted as a vendor.

Now what? Well, she needed help. So she sweet talked (aka dragged) her sister Bretta into helping. With Tara's Chevy Malibu stuffed to the brim with a table and produce, Tara and Bretta arrived at their first market. Tara remembers being nervous about everything! Amazingly, we sold out that day! We wish we had pictures from that first market, but we do not (or we can't find them... haha!). But we do have pictures from 2010, our second year at the market. These are the pictures you see here on this post.

That same year of 2009, we offered our first CSA Veggie Boxes to the community. It is fascinating to look back at our first CSA brochure. How much simpler sign up was back then. No online farm store. Sign up was by email and payments were sent by snail mail.

But not everything has changed! We still use similar wording when we talk about our farm. “Our farm is located in Ashippun, Wisconsin, and our office and pick-up site is located in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Our beautiful hill and its surrounding acreage have been in the family since 1963, and we wish to continue the tradition of sowing, growing, and harvesting the food we eat.” Of course, we’ve added and changed a few operational things since that time, but our foundation remains the same.

It's now been 17 years since those beginning days. Time has continued, and YOU have been a part of our journey. Thank YOU for following us, supporting us, and cheering us on!
