The Beginning of Spring

Pruning Apples at BrynTeg Farm-01.png

Dear Farm Friends,

Week by week we accomplish tasks as the growing season is awakening. Seasons come and go, not by our hand, but by the Creator’s hand. Little seedlings are growing strong stems and reaching up to the sun in the greenhouse. The soil was turned over by hand with a shovel in some of the raised beds. We also planted several beds. This is a reminder that we are stewards of the land as we wait on the sun, the rain, and the insects. The walk-in cooler is ready to be plugged in for our first crop, which will be asparagus. Garlic has also poked through the soil and leaf mulch.

Apple Tree Pruning

While pruning trees, insects of the order Diptera and the Culicidae family arrived to pierce the skin of a host (like humans). In other words, the mosquitos are here.

With the sunshine, the apple trees are starting to bud, and we've scurried to complete the pruning. Pruning opens the canopy to let in light and to allow air to filter throughout the entire tree. All the cuttings under the tree were raked and gathered together.  We appreciate the help of Farm Friends during the pruning and clean up after.

The daffodils are blooming! Yes, spring is here full of color and life.

Your Farmer,
Caryl
