Waiting on the Weather
Dear Farm Friends,
We are waiting for the frost and freeze forecast to be replaced with warmer temps. What happens as we wait?
Flats of young plants have to be protected by covering or by placing inside. And there's not just a few flats. There are flats everywhere.
We wonder if the rows and rows of transplants and newly germinated seeds in the soil of the fields will make it. There were several apple trees close to blooming and the cherry trees had already started to blossom. We wait to see if the frost damaged the blossoms. Sadly, not too many years ago we lost almost our entire apple crop due to a spring freeze. There were not many apples that year.
Growers carry the weight of responsibility on their shoulders. This is where agriculture has many lessons to teach the grower. We merely tend the soil. We are stewards of the earth.
We wait for the sunshine, the rain, and the growth of each plant. You get to wait with us!
Your Farmer,
Caryl
